Ornamental Trees
Southern Magnolia
Filler Scientific Name
No tree makes a statement in the landscape better than a Magnolia! Large, glossy, evergreen leaves make a beautiful contrast to the large fragrant creamy-white blooms in summer. Standard southern magnolias are slow to moderate growers and reach 30 feet tall and 20 feet wide in 30 years. Smaller varieties, such as the Little Gem Southern Magnolia, mature at 15 to 20 feet tall and 10 feet wide. Magnolias prefer loamy soils that are rich with organic material and slightly acidic. For a successful transplanting, plant in cool season in an area with optimal soil and maintain consistent moisture without over watering.
