If you are looking for a showy specimen shrub, look no further! This can be an excellent shrub for areas with limited space as well as an evergreen hedge. These shrubs are moderate to slow growing and will reach ten to twelve feet in ten years. Large red flower spikes appear during warmer months, from late spring through fall. Excellent pest and deer resistance as well as drought tolerant once established. Preferred soil ranges from sandy loam to clay, so long as the soil is well drained. Mild adaptability to poor quality soil and can tolerate some salts as well. They do best in full sun and need at least 6 hours for optimal blooming.
