Oleander Tree

Nerium Oleander

There’s a reason you see oleanders all throughout our local landscape! These tough evergreen shrubs can handle full, hot, afternoon sun as well as some light afternoon shade and tolerate nearly any soil condition. They do best in well-drained soils but can tolerate some moisture as well. While having a moderate growth rate of about 1-2 feet per year, their bloom time lasts the entirety of warm season, blooming from spring through fall. Bloom color comes in white, pink, and red. These are deer resistant however they are also highly toxic to people and our pets. Some dwarf varieties exist, growing three to five feet while most varieties will reach ten to twelve feet in 15 years (older oleanders can reach up to 20’ tall!).
