This native fast-growing shade tree will reach fifty feet tall and wide in thirty years. The Shumard is known for being an adaptable tree, tolerant of alkaline and acidic soils though prefers moist, but well-drained. The Shumard exhibits a rounded shape and dramatic fall color that typically lasts well into December before shedding leaves. Successful transplanting requires at least 6 hours of direct sun and regular watering until the roots are established.
